A lot of quality of life improvements, and a more gradual difficulty curve (late content definitely pushed this into a similar territory as in earlier games though).īut what really changed, aside from a more modern visual presentation, was how players were led into the game. Before World, it was very much a niche game (albeit crazy popular in Japan), with World, it very much blew up and became Capcom's most successful game.Īs someone whose been around since the very early days, I have to say they didn't deviate too much from their core principles.

It reminds me a bit of one of my favorite game series out there, Monster Hunter. And the difference between games in that sector in between and a niche game is often mainly in the polish and how you get people into the game. There is a lot of market between the niche appeal of Elite, and mainstream games like Fortnite. That is absolutely a big part of it, combined with a much more useful ingame codex. I wouldn't play it, if it would be yet another franchise washed out by EA to appeal to everyone and no one like Anthem for example. TL DR - Elite not cod, not made for everyone.
Most general players do not even want to engage in the community, which is nearly inseparable part of Elite experience.

Whereas Elite is a straight up 100ml vodka shot, where even if you are told how to play it via pretty good intro section and tutorials, first few shots will be painful, and if you don't know how to handle it, you may just collapse and you will have no idea what happened.

(tho tbf, I have a habit of going in blind in most games and they all worked out for me after a bit, not this one.) I did not know how to navigate the UI properly and the gazillion keybinds that I had to learn was overwhelming(ARMA3 has the same gazillion keybinds but at least in there you know how to move, aim shoot if youve played an FPS game).ĭropped the game since then until a I bought a hotas a few months ago for DCS.
